thanks !
@Gumbymom, My D25 also has also taken a non-transferable course at a local community college. It is CSU transferable only. For that course, we should not enter it in college courses section, but instead in the activities section ?
I watched the video and she indicates all college courses (if on a college transcript) should be entered. But then later in the presentation states they only count for a grade bump if they are transferable. So, not quite sure what to do?
According to the UC Counselor resources:
Courses that are not UC-transferable or do not fulfill A-G requirements should be reported in the Activities & Awards section in âOther courseworkâ . Students can report the course name and description, grade earned, and the average number of hours they participated.
Thank you!!
my son took 2 AP course in high school and also took the AP exam. But we dont plan to report them in the UC application. I assume AP scores are not required to be reported. Is that right ? thanks,
AP score reporting is optional.
Thanks a lot !
Posted this on reditt, but couldnt get it answered. Hope you can help.
For UC app, are non-transferable CC courses still considered for coursework rigor?
My kid took a two college courses during high school 11th grade (dual enrollment) since it might boost the application course work rigor, and GPA potentially. But we just realize that it might not be UC transferable. Can we still go ahead and enter them in the college course work section (using Other category) and enter the course info and grade ?
worried about just putting them on the activities section, since it might lose value ?
please help guide. thanks,
This is my answer and you are welcome to confirm with UC admissions.
Since they are College courses and they will be on a College transcript, they should be reported on the UC application.
If they are Not UC Transferable:
Courses that are not UC-transferable or do not fulfill A-G requirements should be reported in the Activities & Awards section in âOther courseworkâ . Students can report the course name and description, grade earned, and the average number of hours they participated.
If the courses are not UC Transferable, they are NOT recognized for the extra Honors points for the UC GPA calculation so in turn they will not be considered for HS course rigor.
One of the UCâs 13 Areas of Criteria:
Number of and performance in UC-approved honors, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate Higher Level and transferable college courses
However, Each UC campus is allowed to determine what they will consider towards HS rigor so it will be campus dependent.
My opinion is to put them in the A&A section. Maximize the use of the characters to emphasize the rigor, what the student learned, why the student took the course, etc. Since they arenât going to be calculated into the GPA, why have them blend in with 4 years of other courses? In A&A, you can showcase them.
Hi, Our son is applying to UC campuses from Finland. He is in IB program (in English) and is a US citizen. When entering coursework and grades, the only options are yearly up to 4 quarters a year. But in Finland they have 5 terms in a year for 10-12 grades. For 9th its yearly so thatâs ok. How does he enter the grades when there are 5 terms and that option is not available. There is no counsellor help available in his school. He sent an email to UC admissions but the only response he got is to choose yearly if grade is given once and choose quarterly if grade is given 4 times. No answer for what to do when there are 5 terms and hence 5 grades a year. Any advice is appreciated despite being its last minute.
If your school operates on a 5-term per year system, when reporting your coursework on the UC application, select âOtherâ in the âTerm Typeâ section and then manually specify â5 terms per yearâ to accurately reflect your schoolâs grading structure in the additional comments section. Make sure you list all courses taken during each term with their corresponding grades.
Unfortunately, there is no âotherâ term type. it only has 4 term types (yearly, semester, trimester and quarterly).
Other must be an old option. I would then select quarterly and explain in the additional comments section that there is 5 terms and list those grades and classes there.
Thank you @Gumbymom for your help. thatâs what he did but havenât submitted yet.. Worried about submitting:) wondering if he should call them tomorrow (Monday) before submitting. I miss US schools where counsellors are knowledgeable and help the students..
Have you watched this video tutorial and see if there is any information to help? I have not seen this tutorial
There is âotherâ under grading system so has he tried selecting that âOtherâ and see if he can manually type in the 5 terms?
The grading system is IB for 11th and 12th grades but have 5 terms⊠really frustrating and to make it more complex, 10th grade is 5 terms but grading system is 4-10 (so he is using other for that). Havenât watched that particular tutorial but will watch it now⊠It was mentioned international is for ppl who need Visa and so we didntâ see those⊠but makes sense to check it out
This tutorial also just covers the 4 official terms. I guess writing a note in the additional information is the way to go
Thank you for letting me know about the video. Good luck to him. UCâs are pretty good at figuring out different International curriculumâs.
My D submitted her UC application on December 1 and as of today, it still shows that her application has not been forwarded to the individual campuses that she applied to. How long does it take for it to get forwarded? Is anyone else experiencing this as well?
