Freshman Work-Study and FAFSA

I am a freshman now (just ended my first semester of college) and waiting to complete my 2008-2009 FAFSA. During my Fall semester, I had a $1500 work-study job at the chemistry department in my school. I received an email from my school’s student aid office saying that I had to include the money that I earned during my work-study. I know I worked over $1500, and anything over $1500 won’t be given to me. After taxes, I probably earned much less than $1500. The thing is…is it safe to say that I made $1500 from work-study and write that on the FAFSA as my income? I’m not really sure about the exact value, but I only received $1500 work-study from my previous completed FAFSA and I’m assuming that I will only get $1500 maximum.

You’ll get a W2 or W9 from the employer, and probably from the college, detailing your wages and financial aid. Use those numbers when completing the 08/09 FAFSA. Estimate and correct later if you have to.

Work study income doesn’t hurt your financial aid for next year (regualar wages over about $3500 does).
