I intend on doin a poli sci/intl. development or poli sci/econ double major.

I know you have to fulfill the arts requirements freshman year but I was wondering if I am able to and b) is it prudent to take a 300 level class as a freshman.

Or should i be taking 200 level classes 1st year, 200/300 level classes 2nd year, 3–/400 third year, and 400/500 4th year.

thanks

anyone lookin at courses yet or have advice on structuring course load for freshman year

At Mcgill you don’t have to pick your major immediately, I’m not sure when you do for arts but its at least in your second year, and you can even change it for a bit. Thus, I wouldn’t worry about taking 300 levels as a freshman, in fact, I would suggest against it. I am not even sure if you will be allowed to enroll in 300-level courses because many of these are reserved for older students that have already begun their major officially, and there is limited space in many. That said, 300-level courses are demanding courses in poli sci because they require a lot of reading, often conferences, and several papers each semester. It is usually better to take the lower classes in your freshman year and work your way up. That way you can learn the testing style that is particular to your program, as well as the essay style that is expected. Its not worth enrolling in a difficult course early on when you are inexperienced in writing the style of essays they require.

Take it easy your freshman year, there’s lots of activities and people that will distract you, save the harder courses for when you are settled and comfortable.
