Freshman year

If I blow up my freshman year (by that I mean getting about 3.6 GPA at UC Berkeley) then do I also blow up my chances for getting into a good grad school like Princeton?
My major is applied math and stats.

Thank you,

Getting a 3.6 GPA is not “blowing up” your freshman year. A 3.6 GPA is an excellent GPA in college. This isn’t high school, with weighted averages and GPAs that can go above a 4.0; in college, a 3.6 means that you got mostly As with some Bs. It’s very good.

Thanks a lot for responding!

Try not to worry about exactly which grad schools that you feel that you “need” to get into, especially at this early in your college career. You’re at a great start with your grades, so continue to stay strong if Princeton is your goal, but also try to enjoy your time spent at your undergrad school. According to my parents, most people if not everyone in grad school just worry about getting classes done more than enjoy the campus. Good Luck!
