im confused, when do freshman take placement tests and sign up for classes and do other things like that?? is any of it over the summer or is it all during the orientation once we get on campus?

There are language placement tests on blackboard that essentially only count as practice tests that let you know where you stand. During orientation weekend, you will be able to take math and foreign language placement tests.

You should be able to sign up for classes soon. I don’t know if Georgetown has started sending out the large packets with information on classes, etc. yet, but you should get them soon. If you’re in the college, it will tell include information on labs (if you’re a science major), linguistics class (if you’re a linguistics major), or seminars (if you applied for them and got in). It will also include the name of your peer advisor (who you can ask other questions about advising) and a list of gen ed requirements. You will soon get to “pre-register” for classes and ultimately during orientation you will finalize your schedule and see which classes you got into, and have a chance to complete your schedule.

Hopefully that helps!

Would you happen to know where we can information about the math placement exams?

wtheck is blackboard…

Blackboard is a course management system that a lot of colleges use - you’ll use it a lot once you start classes.

https://campus.georgetown.edu/webapps/portal/frameset.jsp

That should take you to Blackboard.

So we get a packet over the summer. I applied “undecided” to the college, and am attending this fall. However, I recently developed interest in pursuing a science major. I was told it would be no problem to switch over. Do all students get information about all the courses (including labs and linguistics courses) in the packets they receive? Or should I still try contacting Georgetown about declaring a science major? I tried emailing the admissions office but received no response.

All students are essentially “undecided” till you officially declare your major at the end of sophomore year. The packet you receive will contain the same information as everyone else in the College. There maybe a slight variation for pre-med students who the university places in certain classes automatically. If you are interested in being pre-med but did not indicate so on your application its not a problem. You can email your dean now or wait sign up for classes and then ask to add pre-med (which isn’t you major).

If you have any other questions trying contacting the dean’s office (advising office). The admission office can’t really help you now.
Good luck!

A quick question, Do you have to take a foreign language course for international health major, if you are really fluent in a language already? Like I had been living in China and speaking CHinese for 15 years?
Thankyou!!!
