We’ve never had an ice and water dispenser before.
This is an Amana side by side with the dispenser in the front of the door. Ice cubes often get stuck in the flap door opening.
If you don’t reach up there and pull them out, the dispenser will either spit the stuck cube out on the floor once it melts a little, or the flap will stay propped open and the cubes left in the dispenser chute will melt just enough to freeze into a big chunk.
In reading online, it could be the flap door. I spoke to an appliance repair service and for Amana they have to replace the whole thing, not just the flap door.
Before we commit to that, I wanted to ask, is it typical for cubes to get stuck? Or is something wrong with it?
Yes, ice makers/dispensers are probably the biggest service call on refrigerators.
No, not common for ice to get stuck, and it shouldn’t in a new unit. When ice does get stuck on my GE, it’s the solenoid, which opens/closes the flap; solenoid is a $10 part and easy to replace DIY. That said, if you are still under full warranty, if they want to replace the whole thing, have at it. If not, ask about just replacing the solenoid.
