Friendliest College/University?

What do you think is the friendliest college or university?

“friendliest” as defined by what? The student body ? The administration? The surrounding town?

probably any college in the south

University of Wisconsin-Madison-very down-to-earth middle class and polite people

Notre Dame!

When I went to Rosemont College everyone went out of their way to help me out, and all the students and prospective students were very friendly! I’m sure a lot of schools are, just visit the campus to find out for yourself :)

Best: Dartmouth, Brown
Worst: GW, Emory

Clemson. President Barker sets the tone on campus and the friendliness trickles down palpably. The students refer to themselves as family and in many ways act as though they really mean it. They are very helpful to one another. President Barker is not beyond joining in an occasional pickup game on his premises with students. At one scholarship reception, he and his wife would not walk into the banquet hall and take their seats until one very tardy prospie arrived. They waited for an eternity at the door, walked this tardie prospie in, made sure they were comfortably settled in and then went and took their seats. This spirit of friendliness and hospitality permeates the campus.

Another friendly school is U South Carolina, Columbia. The president’s personal modus operandi sets the tone for everybody.

Not all southern schools are this friendly.

University of Michigan!

Smith president, Christ, also sets a good tone.

Miami University of Ohio does not get offended for being used as a safety the way other schools are. They’ll tell you that. I guess that’s a kind of friendliness. If you you are a highly qualified applicant and miss their Harrison deadline, they will find a way to cobble together a scholarship package for you that is almost as good as Harrison.

the south isnt as friendly as everyone thinks… i dont know where people get that. polite? perhaps, but its all fake a good majority of the time

Slipper1234, ditto on Emory. The admissions gatekeepers there act as if they have a chip on their shoulders.

Doesn’t Washington & Lee require their students to greet everyone they encounter on campus? Don’t know if this applies only to fellow students, or to anyone else. W & L is an amazing school, but my 2 oldest kids wouldn’t even look at it when they heard this. Not morning people.

Of the southern colleges we’ve checked out (UVA, Duke, UNC - CH, W & M, and Vanderbilt), I’d say everyone was friendly and helpful to us as visitors, even kids we accosted walking across campus. I don’t know how this would translate into friendliness once a student enrolls. My oldest daughter is at W & M, which she feels is less clique-ish than the others on the list.

Midwestern colleges are usually very down to Earth and friendly…both in terms of the town, the students and the administration/faculty.

Texans are the friendliest. “Howdy,y’all!” Rice or UT.

frazzled1, one gets a sense that UNC-CH is friendlier than Duke. Rice is not too bad.

As an official board Smith honk, Zuma’s right about Smith. But you have to be genetically qualified to go there.

Occidental. (Great Financial Package, Great Weather etc.)

Sports Illustrated 9/16/2003 on the university of nebraska…“They are some of the friendliest people on the planet”
