Friend's GPA is lower but their rank is higher?

So my friends and I got our GPA transcripts and rankings today, and like people do, we compared them. MY GPA is .2 points HIGHER than his, yet MY ranking is 37 spots LOWER? He is a transfer student from another high school, I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. But all I wanted to know was, has anyone else been in this position? If so what did you do or suggest I do?

P.S only asking not because I want to throw him under the bus, but because that ranking difference could make me auto for college.

It could be how they counted hus transfer courses. Talk to your GC, particularly if it means an auto admit spot!

Well do you know if there are some other factors that go into ranking? My GC is the laziest woman in the world. If you ask her a question she emails you a link to a pamphlet that is not even related to the question.

Also she said GPA and rank are calculated automatically by SKYWARD

Every school district does it differently. You should be able to find it in your student handbook. Look on your school district website.

Right-- each school does it differently. I imagine that course rigor probably has a lot to do with it. A slightly lower grade in an significantly more difficult course may carry more weight.

@KEMONG017 Our school uses SKYWARD and my daughter’s came out the same day. Check one more thing on SKYWARD. The first line 17-18 School Year GPA is just for that year. Click on VIEW DETAILS to get your cumulative GPA. This may be the difference. Let us know what you discover.
