From A to B Average (Senior Year)

I consistently maintained a 4.0 throughout my freshman-junir year but now that I’m taking 4 APs, my grades and resulting gpa have dropped significantly. My weighed GPA is probably still in the solid B range, but its not consistent with the rest of my grades. Given the fact that I have already applied to the UCs and Claremont colleges, how will this affect my chances of admit/reject?
Thanks in advance.

The Claremonts(can’t speak to UC’s) look mainly at rigor of courseload, they know that if you took those classes as non AP’s you would get A’s. Of course they would like all A’s in AP’s even better but if the rest of your stats and essay and recs are good, I would not sweat it! Good luck!

Thanks Arizonamom!

My DD is in the same boat almost (not 4.0 uw tho). 4 AP’s + a research class Sr. year = 2 A’s and 3 B’s. Grades are improving so maybe better at semester end. 2 Major leadership positions + 2 varsity sports = time suck. I am hoping that rigourous load and tough grading school rep will win out. She wouldn’t do it any other way anyway; she’d rather get a B in AP than an A in regular. So stick to your guns and try to prioritize your grades first for the remaining semester.

For UC, you will be more than fine. They give great weight to AP. Haven’t you calculated your UC GPA?

I have the exact same problem as you! I’m taking 4 APs this year and am worried that I’m not going to get A’s in all of them. How will schools that request Midyear Grade Reports look at this?

Well hopefully colleges will primarily look at the KINDS of classes taken, not just the grades.

me three! but i’m applying to a lot of reaches… sigh

most privates calculate your gpa from 10th to 12th, right?
