Okay I made a mistake that could make my next four years miserable. I was accepted to both UCI and UCB. I chose UCB but now that I am in Summer Bridge I am regretting coming to this school. This is a mixture of homesick, friendsick and lack of determination. I am wondering what options I have in this situation. I have not began my fall semester but am about to begin Summer Bridge.

Your only - and best - option is to give UCB a chance. You already know that you are rejecting UCB for reasons that aren’t related to the school or the program (homesick, friend sick, etc…) And a summer program does not necessarily reflect your experience as a college freshman there. It’s fine to be anxious and to admit to ‘buyer’s remorse’ but to act on a queasy gut makes no sense.

Spend time looking for things and people to like. A year from now, you will probably be wondering what you made such a fuss about. And if that’s not the case, then a year from now, you can transfer. No one is required to stick out 4 years of misery, if by some slim chance, that’s what happens.

Yes I plan to give Berkeley a chance, but what are the requirements from transferring from a UC to a UC?

^Under the Transfer Students forum is the UC Transfer subforum, you will find the answers there.

Stick it out, that would be a massive downgrade in basically every category.

The downgrade does not bother me because i am sure that going to UCI will give me more focus. That way I will be able to do more and in turn still be productive with my life. At Berkeley I am constantly depressed and lacking any motivation. Maybe its just a phase maybe its not by the end of this summer I will know. Thanks though for your opinion. And I will look into UCI website thanks.

You won’t know by the end of the summer. Summer is not representative of the freshman experience. Give it at least a year before you decide this isn’t a fit. Many freshman take at least one and sometimes two semesters to find their group and a comfortable ‘home’ within a large university.

How do you know UCI will be any different?
It could be better; it could be worse; it could be the same - you have no idea…

If you really despise Berkeley after your first semester (not summer), then consider transferring.
