Frustrating Problems with Extracurriculars

It is nearly the end of junior year already, but I still do not have any outstanding and committed extracurricular stuff that I can show to colleges. I have pretty much spent all of my sophomore year studying and procrastinating. I did not join any sport in my junior year this year because of my busy schedule with four AP classes. I have won second place in a regional speech contest in my sophomore year, but I cannot do the contest again this year because my teacher did not prepare for it. I am currently an officer of California Scholarship Federation and President of the school’s Creativity Club. However, I feel like there is nothing I can do for the California Scholarship Federation in my school. For my creativity club, I have not planned anything but a few meetings during the year. It is nearly the end of the school year now, and I cannot think of any project I can do for the club. Anyone has any suggestions on what I can do right now for my ECs? I have pretty much lost the hope that I will end up in a very good college.

Bump!

Maybe focus less on impressing a college and more on actually enjoying & bettering the club- the other members will certainly appreciate it. I’m not sure what a Creativity Club is, but maybe you guys could sponsor a fun event or workshop for the school community. Best of luck to you!

@Aderynn It’s basically a club that I wanted to set up to do fun projects that show people’s creativity. The thing is I can never come up with something fun that we can all do. School is going to be over in two months. Don’t know what I can do for the club in the meanwhile.

@axlethetraveller Perhaps, since the end of the year is soon, you and your creativity club could try to organize an end of the year event or party?

@Faultystart That is a good idea. But we do not have enough funds to host a part. In addition, we have not done anything significant yet. :((

You can work on planning reforms to make your creativity club more active and involved in your school & community. This is something I’m working on in the science clubs I’m involved with (most of which are pretty inactive). I know what you mean with feeling like you haven’t been involved enough, but for me, it’s just because I stepped in as an officer this year and never had any major officer positions before. however, with an entire year ahead of us, we both have enough time to get involved with our clubs & use them to make an impact on our schools. Thankfully, with something as broad as creativity, you have a lot of options. you can do things with more of a community service/charity bent, or you can hold competitions or activities/events to involve the club and school. Just keep in mind that the main purpose isn’t doing impressive things for college but enjoying being involved & making a positive impact on your school and the future members of the club that will benefit from what you did as an officer. Hope this helps!

Hosting a community service or charity event is nearly impossible. I attend a private school located in a very isolated area and we can barely call the place a “community”. But doing a project within the school or online would be a good idea. Just don’t know the best way to express our “creativity” though.
