<p>FSU’s [College</a> of Medicine](<a href=“http://www.med.fsu.edu/]College ”>http://www.med.fsu.edu/ ) has done very well and is still hiring despite cutbacks elsewhere in the budget passed by the Florida Legislature.
The medical school is scheduled to begin the 2009-10 school year with a $48.2 million budget, up from the $45.4 million it had for the past school year .</p>
<p>Created in 2000 as a separate line item in the State University System budget, FSU’s College of Medicine is not yet at 100 percent capacity.</p>
<p>Seventy-three students are scheduled to graduate on Saturday, while the incoming class will have 120 students. That will put the college at full-strength for its first-, second- and third-year classes. The fourth-year class has about 95 students.</p>
<p>This is why the university-wide hiring freeze does not apply to the medical school, as it continues to hire additional faculty.
