Fulfilling IGETC requirements in high school and applying to Berkeley

hi, i am a current high school junior who is on track to finish the IGETC by the end of my senior year of high school. i am planning to apply to Berkeley L and S as a freshman for the class of 2021. I am taking dual enrollment courses at the community college, AP classes, and i live in-state. Mainly, i was wondering:
-would this have any weight in the college admissions process?
-could this be applied to breadth requirements at Berkeley?

I understand that AP courses cannot be used for seven course breadth in the college of L and S, but theoretically if i was deferred to spring admission, could i just enroll in a california community college and have them (the community college) accept all my AP credits during the fall (prior to admission into Berkeley). i know someone who did something similar to this prior to admission at UCLA ten years ago.

Would UC Berkeley have to accept these credits? Am I even allowed to have the community college give me units for AP classes if I am starting at UCB in the spring? Would these credits that i received for AP tests be valid for breadth courses at Berkeley?

If i was to sum this all up, i would say i am trying to find an alternative that would make my APs count at Berkeley for the seven breadth reqs and hopefully allow me to graduate early or do a double major. Any insight would be much appreciated…

This sounds like a question for UC Berkeley. Contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (I’d wait until after this admissions cycle is complete so late May or early June at the earliest). They will have much better answers than anyone on CC could offer.

I almost died from reading your post. I am so heart-broken now because I went through a similar situation that you are planning to. The IGETC only works if you are going to that specific community college for sure! Otherwise, it is not really worth it. You should use assist.org and try to see if UC Berkeley will take the classes that you’re going to take at the local community college. I am currently enrolled in a program called College Connection, a program where I attend my local community college for my senior year and receive both high school and college credits. I will be attending UC Merced for my first college year, and I found out that only 7/10 of the classes that I took are transferable to UC Merced. It literally broke my heart because I worked so hard in these classes, and yet, they mean nothing. Speaking of weight to your chance for UC Berkeley, I think that it might. I got accepted into UC Berkeley, and I have to admit that mu SAT scores were below average. It sounds ridiculous because many people that got nearly perfect SAT or ACT scores did not get in, so I’m assuming it might. I think that my personal statements were weak, but my teachers said that it was extremely strong so I’m not sure. It could be my personal statements, who knows. If you take the college level English and Math in a community college, it is most likely transferable to any UC. This means that it is equivalent to passing your AP Tests. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to message me. I will definitely do the best I can to help you, perhaps share my dreadful experience.
