Full year research

When some people say they did 2-3 full years of research, what do they actually mean?

… what does it sound like?

It could mean 1 hour per month, 12 months a per year, 2-3 years.

I thought you could only call a research full year only if you worked full time all year (40+ hours per week).

It may or may not mean that, but it’ll be obvious from the context. If they’re doing a year of research as a college student, it’s understood that that’s full time during summers and part time during school years, etc. If you’re doing it as a job after school, then that’s full time.

In any case, AMCAS asks for specific hours involved, so that’s not a possible ambiguity.

Yeah, what BDM said. My research adviser told me that research during the year, for academic credit, requires generally 10-12 hours a week. You have the freedom to divide that time up (almost) however you like.

I’m starting some brain/neuroscience research this summer, and will continue with UROP my jr and sr years, and the summer before my sr year.
