Fullerton College classes filled

Hello, I’m a recent high school grad who applied to the Fall 2011 term for Fullerton College and while the registration appointment for my term isn’t until Aug. 2, I see that most of the classes I want such as Biol 170 have been filled already. So my question is whether community colleges open up seats for new students once registration starts or are we stuck with what is left? Also, I’m unsure if whether I should still enroll into classes that will have little effect considering that I am hoping to transfer into a UC as a Bio Major or if I should just enroll again for the next term and try to pre-register for classes before the registration date. Any help would be appreciated!

The problem with community colleges is that they are so crowded, it is nearly impossible to get classes for freshmen. Unfortunately, no they do not open up seats for new students so you are stuck with what is left- the bottom of the barrel. It is, however, in your best interest to at least try and take some classes to accumulate units, as you gain priority for registration depending on how many units you have completed.

As End Phase said, even if the only courses open when you can register are in subjects that you have little or no interest in it is a smart strategy to register for as many classes as you can, preferably UC transferable, since accumulating units at your CC is the only hope you have of ever getting an earlier registration date for future semesters. Even at $36/credit hour, taking at least 12 units of something each semester will not cost you that much and will improve your chances of getting the courses you want in a year or two.

you should probably still go and see if anyone drops because then you have a chance. I went to Fullerton College but couldn’t get a biology class there. I would consider going to other CC’s around the area like Citrus College. I got a bio class there  I heard that its easier to get a class at Pasadena City College and Chaffey if you’re willing to go that far. Mt. Sac is really popular so I wouldn’t go there. You can transfer you’re credits from other schools and get advanced standing.
