We will be having a family get-together during the holidays. I was wondering if any one could suggest a fun board game that many people could play, either individually or by making teams. One game that everyone enjoyed in the past was “SCENE IT”. I think it is a wonderful way for adults and kids to interact. Thanks for your suggestions.

Apples to Apples

This game is fun for everyone but the youngest: [Amazon.com: Balderdash®: Toys & Games](http://www.amazon.com/Mattel-B9176-Balderdash®/dp/B000096RBO)
Lots of laughs as words are defined with a straight face.

Our family really enjoys Cranium (including those of us who don’t normally like board games.) And though not a “board game” in the traditional sense, we have had a lot of fun with our “Bop it” in a variety of different groups.

We just dicovered Mexican Dominoes. One of the many variations that come with a Double 12 or double 15 dominoe set (sold at Target and Walmart). Even gets our teenagers to come out of their rooms to play!

We just bought and played UNO Attack! - a new action version of UNO. It can be played by up to 10 people (or more with more cards) at a time, and provided some hilarious moments.

Taboo is great. Balderdash is a good one too. Yahtzee can be played by anyone old enough to toss the dice.

wise and otherwise

Balderdash, Trivial Pursuit is there aren’t too young kids around, Frustration and Monopoly are all festive favourites for us. :)

I second Apples to Apples. This game is popular in a lot of high schools and colleges, which is great since that age group is often the most reluctant to play. It’s not a board game in the traditional sense, but it’s fun and easy to play.

I think Pictionary is good for family groups. My family is not one of artists so the drawings that emerge are usually hilarious. It’s shocking how people manage to get the correct answers sometimes.

Though not really a fun & active game, a lot of people in my family tend to break out Scrabble at night during the holidays. That’s a good, quiet game for when everyone’s tired, but it involves more direct “family time” than putting in a move or something like that.

Cranium WOW is (I think) the latest version - that is the big hit this year, since every participant (ages 12-70) at our family gathering can play.

I know this isn’t a board game, but everyone here is also hooked on BUZZ, the latest trivia game for Playstation, also good for all ages…

I third Apples to Apples.
It’s amazing.

Buzz is great fun - there are a lot of good Playstation things for parties :)

We love the handheld Catch Phrase. It’s kind of like $10,000 Pyramid. Also, Boggle, and the card game Quiddler.

Speaking of dominoes, we love Chicken Foot.

Taboo is a lot of fun.

We like to play Cranium - and sometimes we play Catch Phrase.

We actually play a lot of Bingo with 10+ people. My father prepares envelopes of money ahead of time… could be 10 cents, could be $20. We play different winning designs which keeps you on your toes (4 corners, postage stamp, X, outside square, etc and coverall at the end).

We bought my dad a nice wood and brass set and he loves being the caller.

Poker - I know this is not a board game. My brother-in-law had a tradition of playing poker with all 6 niece and nephews since they could start to sit up straight. I was never aware they were playing poker. I just knew all of our kids were very quiest whenever their Italian uncle was around to play card games with them. I didn’t know how good my 18 year old daughter was until went to a casino night at a resort, and she cleaned up - more than once.

Now these kids are getting older, I forewarned my brother-in-law - no cigars. He agreed, but he said during this holiday they are playing for money.

Another vote for Apples to Apples - we play it as a family and daughter plays it at college all the time. 10 year old loves it too - so all around good family game.

Another we really like is “Whoonu” - another Cranium game and expecially good for people who know a little about each other - like family does…

My S bought Puerta Rico today to play with friends.
