*he was quite derivative of his take on how much he actually hiked

All right, EK–what does this actually mean?*

I guess I could have used the word “snarky” or derisive, sorry I have a language issue.
What this other guy was saying was that Bryson didn’t really " Hike" the trail" but dabbled around it here and there.
I haven’t read the book so I don’t know what impression Bryson was trying to give - but I don’t see him lumped with the " adventure" writers that I read, but rather more of travel/humour anyway- so dabbling wouldn’t bother me.But this other man was really huffy.

True that Bryson and friend did not hike the whole trail, but did hike parts.

and he makes it very clear what he did and didn’t do in the book–not misleading at all.

Christopher Moore writes really fun stuff. Here is a quote from his web page about one of my favorites:The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove
by Christopher Moore

The town psychiatrist has decided to switch everybody in Pine Cove, California, from their normal antidepressants to placebos, so naturally – well, to be accurate, artificially – business is booming at the local blues bar. Trouble is, those lonely slide-guitar notes have also attracted a colossal sea beast named Steve with, shall we say, a thing for explosive oil tanker trucks. Suddenly, morose Pine Cove turns libidinous and is hit by a mysterious crime wave, and a beleaguered constable has to fight off his own gonzo appetites to find out whats wrong and what, if anything, to do about it.

I’m reading Eats, Shoots & Leaves…it’s so funny! (know I’m late to the party on this one…).

I now feel better about my long-standing irritation re: “Bobs Big Boy.”

PS Hedda, that sounds creatively hilarious!

Oh, thanks for the reminder about Eats Shoots & Leaves!!! I’d heard about that long ago and wanted to read it back then. But forgot of course.
