Fun Time! What secret ingredient do you add to typical dishes/recipes?

*I apologize to the OP that this is off subject, but mom2collegekids…my mom had a stroke too, almost exactly a year ago. She’s pretty severe…what happened to your mom? *

No apologies needed. My mom has had 3 severe strokes. The first one was the worst. It happened on the morning of my parents 50th wedding anniversary! That was almost 6 years ago.

She lost vision in her “right field of vision”…which means she can’t really see anything that is on her right side without turning her head. So, she lost her ability to drive (that was a BIGGIE!)

She also has some aphasia…she can’t think of some nouns…but she can “talk around it.” Such as…she can’t remember the word “purse,” so she’ll say “where I keep my money.”

She hasn’t been able to fly since her first stroke because there is a belief that the pressure change will bring on another stroke. Her first stroke happened about 6 hours after flying.

the weird thing was that after her first stroke (she was on vacation), the neurologist said that she would be a vegetable because of the extent of the brain damage. He was soooooo wrong. Mom can dress herself, shower, use the toilet, do her hair/make up and communicate pretty well. We don’t have her use the stove, but she uses the microwave and does light housekeeping and all of the laundry.

how is your mom doing? Did she go to rehab? What, if any, losses has she experienced?
