Funded Positions for Americans at Australian Graduate Schools for Mining Engineering

Is it possible for an American to get a funded position pursuing a Masters in Mining Engineering at either the University of New South Wales, University of Queensland or the Western Australian School of Mines?

To give you context, I am an American pursuing an undergraduate degree in mining engineering and I will graduate in May 2017. My grades are near perfect, I have lots of academic honors and scholarships, but I’m still working on getting my first research position (or rather name on a published paper) during my senior year. I have also had two internships with major companies, but it doesn’t look like I am going to have a job offer in the Fall as the companies I have worked for are either bankrupt or leaving America.

In addition, is it wise for an American to got to graduate school in Australia for mining engineering? I am looking to go to graduate school in Australia to both to broaden my mining engineering and to show mining companies I am comfortable working abroad.

Good luck affording it mate, seriously.

So no chance of getting a funded research position as an American?

You need to take your question directly to the Mining Engineering departments at the universities that interest you. The faculty members there will be able to tell you what their funding situation is like and whether they have support available for international students in their graduate programs.
