Funny white elephant gift ideas < $25

I don’t know, I don’t consider the potty humor one’s funny at all. Yuck.

It is funny but not in the sense of toilet humor funny (which I don’t like). IMO, it is funny in the way a toilet plunger gift would be. Practical but slightly embarrassing. BTW, Squatty Potty is excellent and is scientifically proven. Have a couple in my house. Highly recommend.

I still think a pizza blanket is the best idea!

This looks good. But not funny.

Love this thread!

For our large family gatherings we only give the kids “real” gifts. The adults give silly gifts, like suggested here. We also go crazy on silly stocking stuffers (as seen on TV!) which gives me great items to re-gift at future white elephants.

I gifted the squatty potty a few years ago and while it got a good laugh it is actually still being used. So that’s the perfect mix of a gag gift that’s useful. I may continue that theme with that family member… it makes me laugh.

The fart ninja sounds perfect for my young nephew (although I’ll get him non-gag gifts as well). It seems boys never stop finding farts funny.

I love that adult Lego too. I need to see if they have something similar appropriate for a tween. It’s perfect for my niece but she’s only 10.

Fun thread!

I have given one of my BILs a Chia Pet every year for 20+ years. It started as a gag but his windowsill at work now proudly displays them all. This will be this years…

Our dog has the tortilla one.

My new favorite thread.

We’ve given the burrito blanket. That’s a good one.

In our friend group the best white elephant gifts have been random things someone found at thrift stores that come back year after year:

A Miss Piggy Bank: https://www.■■■■■■■■/listing/1794788780/miss-piggy-bank-muppets-signa-japan?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=miss+piggy+bank&ref=sr_gallery-1-1&content_source=220a4b2efce827dded91adcfcdbdc440468694ad%253A1794788780&organic_search_click=1

A four-foot tall, nearly indescribable reindeer-headed wicker dress form thing wearing a blue dress and a scarf and carrying flowers in it’s hands (yes it had hands and antlers) that someone found at TJ Maxx, which still had the price tag and kept coming back for years. We never knew which package would contain a note instructing you to go outside to discover you’d chosen the reindeer to house for the next year.

The sixth plate from a Danbury mint series of Ten Commandment plates

A cheap plastic wall clock with a feather boa wrapped around the edge.

We’ve also had chia pets. The squatty potty idea is a great one.

I guess I’m a curmudgeon. I strongly dislike funny white elephant exchanges. I don’t want more junk in my house that doesn’t serve a purpose. Last year I suggested to my friend that we do a used cookbook exchange. It was a small group of women and we all had cookbooks we had been given or no longer used. It was great as we all went home with something we might actually use.

I am with you on this - which is why I have been suggesting gifts that are more useful than most. My friends would do a book exchange and that worked great.

My favorite is an ornament swap. Our adult Sunday School class had one for years. I’m putting up my tree today, and I have several from those parties.

For the longest time these two HIDEOUS ornaments kept getting brought back year after year. They were sort of a pair - one was a ceramic cat head and one was a ceramic poodle head. They were really heavy so once people figured that out they avoided the heavy bags. Then people figured that out and started putting heavy objects in bags with really nice ornaments to throw people off. Then people started taping $20 bills on their heads, which made them highly desirable!

Of course, an ornament swap doesn’t work for all since not everyone puts up a tree.

Love the cookbook exchange idea.

For white elephant exchanges, I’d prefer a limit of $5 or $10, encourage finding thrift shop treasures. (Yea, I know $25 is max, ie not required expenditure. Still seems lower limit would be better).
