Furman - 4 of the Best 300 Professors in the Country

<p>My daughter sent me the link to this article today regarding Princeton Review’s “The Best 300 Professors”. I think on a per student basis Furman was probably at the top of the list. </p>

<p>My daughter took one of the four professors “Charles Brewer” for psychology. I think her comment to me sums up the hallmark of a great professor. </p>

<p>She said, “he was a GPA killer but if I had to do it over again I would. I could not wait to get to the next class and I learned more in this class then I did in my entire senior year in high school.”</p>

<p>Last week she went to UGA to spend the night with a friend and attended there introductory psychology class with about 300 students. She said, the lecture content was not even comparable. </p>

<p>Feedback likes this makes writing that tuition check a whole lot easier.</p>

<p>Agree with srockrae, the quality of the faculty at Furman, is IMO, the school’s strongest advantage, among many. DS is an English major and loved Dr. Oakes. Our two kids have probably learned as much from office hours professors hold as they have in class. Both S and D have had opportunities to debate, discuss and absorb incredible information and mentoring from Furman professors. Our daughter spent two semesters at Georgia Tech-most classes were 100-200+ kids and students had to purchase a hand held device that allowed professors to know when a student wanted to participate. Her smallest class size was in a 400 level Science of Philosophy course, with at least 40 students. GT is an incredible university with world class learning, but 5 minutes of the professor’s time cannot compare the relationship between Furman professors and their students. Our son and daughter will tell anyone some of the best professors can be GPA killers, but the education is incomparable.</p>

<p>To add to this, Dr. Brantley (Physics) was awarded the Meritorious Teaching Award this year. That puts him at the top in the country.</p>
