Are you in-state or out-of-state?
We are out of state.
Do mind sharing GPA?
Sorry, heās very into his privacy during this whole process, so I donāt know his exact GPA. He is an A student with a few high Bs and has taken around 6 AP courses. Iāve had to explain to him that weāre not snooping when we ask him to forward us his communication from Furman, but we try to keep a light touch.
I just found out Iām a finalist for the Duke Scholarship, anyone else?
Yes! My son is as well. Did you get an email or text? He just checked his portal and the invite was there but he hasnāt received anything otherwise
I know this board is kind of quiet but does anyone know how many Duke finalists there are? Weāre trying to figure out if itās worth missing an important weekend to attend.
A few years ago, 35 attended. 8 were offered the scholarship. Where was the invite in the portal?
Where was it in the portal?
I got a FedEX notification this morning and did some digging and found out that they sent this around last year for the Duke scholarship! Then I also saw from an earlier thread it will also be in the portal so I checked!
My daughter got a FedEx envelope! Time to plan a trip to Greenville!
So the invite is right underneath the admissions decision with a click through to register for the scholarship weekend.
Darn! I donāt see it. Were your students Townes scholars? We were here so we were hoping for an invite. Thanks for updating the forum!! Good luck to your kids!
My son also received Townes and was hoping to be considered for Duke. But now I wonder if they get Townes, if that means they wonāt be selected as a finalist for Duke.
The competition must have been a lot this year.
My son received Townes and is a Duke finalist. We were surprised but thrilled.
My daughter also received Townes and is a Duke finalist. We are also completely surprised and happy!
Wonder if itās the other way around then - they have to be a Townes recipient to be considered for Duke? My child got the Bell Tower scholarship, and has good stats, but didnāt get called back for Duke.
Furman is one of my childās top two schools, but Furman didnāt offer him any need-based aid. The other college, which is quite similar in size, cost, and reputation, offered him $15k in need-based aid on top of a merit scholarship.
Weāre still waiting for news about his music scholarship, and maybe that will make up the difference, but Iām a little surprised that one school would offer a sizable need-based scholarship and Furman would offer none at all.
My son got Townes, but we havenāt heard anything on Duke.
Did you complete the CSS on time? Iād call the financial aid office and speak with an advisor.
