the frame of a metal futon comes in a box and cushion not in box… I am trying to save time after we move d into dorm by having my husband put the frame together before we get to her room, since he has to loft the beds and put together some other stuff… Will the frame, maybe unfolded or any other way fit thru dorm doorways, stairs and hallways. My d is going to a semi large UW college.
I would keep the pieces that have to be carried up stairs as small as possible. My daughter is on the 4th floor of a dorm and the stairs between floors wind back so there is a corner. It can be tough to get around the corner with a futon frame. Depends on how light the frame is. Can the halves of the frame be put together for carrying and then the halves joined in the room. Without knowing the details of the frame it’s hard to say. Keep in mind the stairs will be very crowded on move-in day with other people carrying large objects. I don’t think doorways or halls will be problem, just the stairs.
You just posted about using a dolly to get to the third floor because the dorm does not have an elevator. I would keep the pieces as small as possible as suggested above for the ease of carrying them upstairs.
Oh for goodness sake. Please keep the pieces smaller so you can help move them, if necessary. Plus, you know the pieces will fit into the dorm room easily, and up,the stairs, and around corners…you don’t know if an assembled frame will.
And if you are trying to keep the weight down…the pieces will weigh less than the assembled frame.
You posted this earlier. So…why didn’t you just order the futon that would be in the room when you got there? That would have solved this futon issue well. No schlepping…no assembly.
My daughter didn’t order the one on college.products because with shipping the futon cost over double. She had to pay for it herself. My husband said he would help her get it there to help save the money. My daughter pays for her college education, herself. We are a one income family, at this time. We have helped with fees, and buying the necessary things for her dorm.
Also, at the time I posted the thing about it being in her room I didn’t know hoe MUCH shipping was and that it wasn’t set up and when we got to campus we would have to get it from some other area if it wasn’t in her dorm. Didn’t sould worth the money.
