Future of NMF awards?

<p>I’ve read some speculation that UT will be cutting back their generous NMF awards for future incoming classes. For instance:</p>

Thank you for your email and your interest in UT Austin. Currently, UT Austin does not offer specific awards for National Merit, National Hispanic or National Achievement scholars. A student’s accomplishments, however, are highly considered in the offering of many scholarship awards - particularly for incoming freshman. To learn more about the scholarships that the University does offer, please visit our website at: Texas Scholarships and click on “Scholarship Types”.

<p>2008 was the last year a scholarship was guaranteed.</p>

<p>National Merit Students typically have great stats and have good odds of getting the scholarships that are currently offered; however, the number of scholarships and total amount offered this year and in the future will be considerably less than in the past.</p>

<p>Did I imagine this or did they (used to) guarantee in-state tuition rates for OOS NMFs?</p>

<p>You receive an in-state tuition waiver for any scholarship valued at $1,000 per year or more. The NMF award for out of state students was $1,000 a year, so they got waivers.</p>

<p>The waivers still exist for $1,000 scholarships or more, but these scholarships are going to be a lot harder to come by.</p>
