Theaters have survived because movies were released there first and only became available to stream much later. Not sure that will change post-pandemic. Yes, Warner Brothers (I think ) said they will distribute all movies this coming year to both theaters and to streaming, but that may not happen due pushback from movie makers.
Sharing ANY experience with an audience is why I prefer to stay home. Some like crowds and crowd participation, others don’t. I don’t see theaters going away completely because, as this thread shows, many prefer that experience.
I do hope you can return to the movies, my Son is a manager of a movie theater that was forced to close down again 2 weeks before Christmas, these theaters are struggling and employ many people.
I live in a different state and did see WW at the theater at 25% capacity and yesterday I saw promising young woman and I was the only person in the theater. They had to have made a loss playing that movie for my $5.25 ticket.
In 2019 I had the AMC movie pass and saw close to a hundred movies, since the pandemic started in March this year I have only seen 5.
We will miss the movies if they are gone, but I also think some studios, directors and actors who have made their fortune from movies should try harder to save them.
A movie theater in my part of town will reopen next Friday, and they will be showing Wonder Woman 1984. I don’t feel safe going even though I really want to see that movie.
Are you able to go to a matinee? I’ve been to the movies x 6? since covid and it’s been pretty empty.
You can sign up for HBOMax and watch it safely at home. It’s a very meh movie.
Our local fancy movie theater is open and seems quite busy when I drive by. Obviously not back to pre-pandemic level but imo too busy for current conditions.
I love seeing a movie in a theater. It’s not the same at home even on a large screen TV. Some theaters are open near me but I don’t feel safe going. I do look forward to returning someday.
I’m not much of a movie goer. In the past 5 years I’ve probably been a couple of times. Can’t even tell you what I saw most recently!
I figure that a movie +snacks (and if I’m going to a movie, I want snacks) for two would cover Netflix costs for 2-3 months. I’ll stick with Netflix while acknowledging that this does not really help the movie industry.
