it will be amazing to see the effect on UC admission for middle UC like UCSB UCSC UCI and UCD. they want to make UCmerced have 25,000 students and they will accept lots of students. however middle UCs will accept less and less. maybe middle UCs will accept less than half of applicants in the future.

This is doubtful, as there are so many potential applicants and because so many people apply to multiple UCs.

Say UCSC had 100 applicants, and wanted a class of 30. Historically, many students applying to UCSC might also apply to three or four other UCs with one or two at a higher priority level. That is, UCSC is more of a match safety for some students, if they got into UCLA or a school closer to their home or more in tune with their future plans…they would choose the other school. …so based on recent experience UCSC accepts 60 students…expecting half of them to go someplace else. All the UC’s have this problem as do most colleges…because many of the UC’s are close in cost and requirements and the application is simply a click and a check on line, they perhaps have more. Their admission rate is 60% in order to fill seats with one third of their applicants. This will probably continue until a population shift occurs and then the schools will look out of state for highly qualified candidates, and the Northeast and other regions will loose students to sunny California, providing we don’t drop into the ocean.
