I was accepted into Stern for my freshman year, but I was unable to accept their offer as my family could not afford 60k+ for four years.

However, it’s still my dream school and I hope to transfer there for my junior year. How hard is this to do? Will they look favorably or unfavorably on my having being accepted there already?

I’m currently at UCLA and I’d like to be an accounting major if/when I transfer. What sort of GPA will I need? How important are letters of rec? (I’m worried since all of my classes are 300+ students.) What other factors do they consider important?

3.6 or 3.7 GPA minimum. I don’t think NYU considers letters of rec. Have you been doing all of the prereqs that Stern requires? Stern will not accept you if haven’t taken all the appropriate course.

Definitely working through the prereqs, but wondering how my chances would change if I were to switch over to a community college? Would a better GPA from a CC be looked upon more favorably than a worse GPA from UCLA?

I’m pretty confident in my ability to get a 4.0 at my local CC, but since I’ve only even taken one midterm here so far, I don’t know how my UCLA GPA is going to turn out. Obviously aiming for 4.0, but since an A- is already a 3.7, I dunno what’s going to happen.

Take enough courses that will transfer over.

Letters of recommendation are required, and can be the deciding factor if your gpa is at the lower end of the spectrum.

Your essay explaining your desire to transfer will also be crucial, as a previously accepted candidate you should be able to genuinely convey your desire to go to Stern. Simply explain your financial situation and show that your coursework and experiences at UCLA have been in pursuit of an academic environment that Stern will offer you.
