Future Transfer student

I’m currently attending Florida State University but I am looking for a school that fits me better. I was part of a bad crowd in high school and by junior year I had a 3.2 UW and a 4.8 W. By senior year I improved by a lot (most of my grades were an A). My UW went to a 3.3 and my W went to a 5.2. I passed the AP Calc exam. When I got into Florida State University, I was unhappy, chose a major that wasn’t for me, and overall was not concentrated like I should have been. My FSU GPA is a 3.1 but my College GPA is a 3.2. I switched my major to Computer Science from biology and I plan on working really hard to hopefully transfer after my first semester as a Sophomore. Does anyone have any tips on what I should do other than increase my academics?

I don’t want to be discouraging, but that’s a low GPA for admission to Wesleyan. Are you an underrepresented minority? Do you have some mind-blowing personal or family story that might offset the mediocre academics? By “passed,” I assume you mean a 3 on AP Calc AB. People routinely get rejected with 5s on multiple APs. I wouldn’t give up on Wes but you definitely should be casting a wide® net for schools with which your stats line up better. Others can suggest match schools, but first try to articulate what differences you’re looking for in the next college/uni: size, atmosphere, particular academic strengths, extracurricular opportunities… Best of luck!

I’m not going to be much help here, and I don’t have a list, but there are good schools out there that are more forgiving with a good story - and perhaps yours is. Schools like Wesleyan, I suspect, are more caught up in their numbers than those more forgiving schools, and if Wes ever takes a 3.2 (and is willing to take the hit to its academic quant. profile), then it’s going to be because Mike Whalen really wants the kid as his new star tight end. Or because Julia Louis-Dreyfus is related to the applicant and there’s reason to assume a $20 million gift will follow shortly after admissions season. I jest, but not entirely. It would seem w/o a hook, and a pretty good hook at that (read - not girls field hockey), Wesleyan and similar colleges shouldn’t be the target. wesleyan97 actually attended, so if he’s not optimistic, I’d heed his advice and cast a broader net.
