In between the spring showers of mid Willamette valley, I thought you might like to know that the first daffodils are open, the great flocks of Canadian Geese have formed and have been leaving for ANWAR and parts of the North, and the temperature has hit +60.

Geese woke me at 11:30pm. The owl flights are now happening. Clear night sky and navigation by stars.

11:00 am. Another gaggle just flew over on their way to the refueling stop at the refuge.

That is really great to hear up North. It used to be my first signs of Spring were daffodils on my own lawn, but I see that cyber-daffdodils come sooner. So far I hang onto the fact that it’s daylight longer each day, but the sun is still shining down on snow so far.

Thanks!

I love the way those geese sound when they honk all over the sky.

The first two crocus are up!

NY/NJ are expecting a mild next week…no daffodils by us yet but I will be glad to see the snows melt and be able to take the dog out for long walks again.

I walked into a university building last month which had the most disgusting deposits on the walkway…I was told it was right under a geese flight path. Those geese make some serious business as they go… I always liked the sound, too, but that took the joy right out of my soul.

Mathmom: Is the plural of crocus crocuses? Or croci??

I wondered whether I should write croci, but I think it sounds pedantic, I was pretty sure both were acceptable, glad to see I was right. :)

Azaleas are blooming here, and the Bradford pears are about to flower. Wildflowers should start blooming in the next few weeks - all those wonderful bluebonnets. And cars are starting to get covered in yellow pine pollen.

Ah, to be in Houston, now that springtime’s here.

Yes, all three weeks of it.

Wow, azaleas come that early in Houston? When do the fireflys arrive :-)

Sadly the fireflies are killed by the mosquito foggers.
