Any word yet as to where the present President Bush might build his presidential library?

I have heard a couple of cities mentioned as possible sites for the library – Austin, College Station, Waco, Midland/Odessa, Lubbock, Houston and Dallas.

I doubt Austin will get the library. While is the state capitol and GWB served as governor there, Austin already has a presidential library (LBJ’s) and has a reputation as a liberal and Democratic stronghold.

College Station/Bryan area is hospitable to conservative Republicans, but the presidential library for George Herbert Walker Bush is already there. That might be a strike against the community.

GWB grew up in north Texas, but I dont know how strong his ties are to either Midland/Odessa or Lubbock. Ditto Houston, where his father’s congressional seat was located.

I hear that Baylor University in Waco desparately wants to be the site for the presidential library. Waco is fairly near Crawford. Again, I don’t know if there are any genuine ties to the community.

I once heard that the First Lady is pushing for the Dallas area. She is a SMU graduate and wants to retire to Dallas after 2009. I read that she has plenty of college friends and sorority sisters in the Dallas area and that she has no plan to retiring to Crawford.

If anyone has heard anything, please let me know.
