GA tech-hands on learning?

Does anyone know if Georgia Tech, for engineering majors (specifically civil) has a learn by doing philosophy?

I’m deciding between GIT and Cal Poly SLO and Cal poly’s learn by doing philosophy is the major pull for it (besides in state tuition)

GT is a much more theoretical engineering school than Cal Poly SLO, but then again all of the top engineering schools are theoretically based. I’ve graduated from both theoretical schools and practical schools. The theoretical education is much better (which is why all of the top engineering schools are theoretically based).

The reason is that understanding the fundamentals of engineering allows you to adapt to different situations as they arise in your career. Also, learning the fundamentals then figuring out the “doing” leads to a greater understanding of the “doing” and allows an engineer to adapt in practice faster as the field evolves (because of new technology, new tools, new software, etc.).
