Galaxy or iphone?

Well, unfortunately it’s time for a new phone. I currently have a Galaxy 3. I like the size of the screen. I don’t use my phone much other than the normal texting/talk. I have and IPAD and Kindle. DH thinks I should get an iPhone. My sons have a 5s and 6, and I like the size of mine better than there’s. Is there any particular reason an iPhone is better, or that it’s better if I have other Apple products.

I can get a 5s for just .99 with a contract. I think the 6 is $100.

If you’re going with Apple, why not a 6s?

I went with Galaxy, but that’s because that’s what my kids have, so they can help me when I get into trouble. Sounds like your family has iPhones, so that won’t help you.

When you have an iPhone and an iPad, changing between the 2 is very seamless. I love that pictures on one device show up on the other. When I get a phone call and I’m on my iPad, I see that my iPhone is ringing. The apps I download on one show up on the other. I just love how one device mirrors the other.

I find the iPhone so easy to use.

I would not get a 5 if you’ve had the Galaxy. The 6 is a better size and the camera is much better. I have a 5 and while it’s fine, when I get a new phone it will be the latest model offered. Also don’t get a 16gb, spring for the larger size. 16 gbs is not big enough for all your stuff. I am always deleting stuff so I have room on my phone, it’s a big pain in the tush.

If you get an iPhone, you can text free with your sons when they are abroad.

Do you like the way your iPad works? Using the apps, the cloud, etc. Do you feel you have that system down? If the answer is yes, why not make it an easier learning experience with the new phone - just learn one system well!

What I like about Apple products is the customer support. My local Apple Store offers workshops. I’ve taken two in the last week, and will continue to take more. Even though I’ve had an iPhone for over 5 years, I know I’m not making good use of all of the new features.

I just bought the 6s on launch day. Love it!

I love that both devices are synced. All my texts/iMessages/email can be answered on both devices. I’m on my iPad a lot more than my phone so I’m not constantly jumping up to answer my phone. My mom had a Samsung Galaxy and we wanted to get her a tablet for her 85th birthday. She wanted to be able to FaceTime with her great grandchild so we got her an IPad and she got an IPhone. At first she was unhappy because some of her favorite apps weren’t available on iPhone but she got over that and loves both devices.

Thanks evetyone…I’m leaning towards the iPhone 6. DH says to wait for 6s, but I don’t know if I want to spend the extra money.

Everything said about the Apple ecosystem can be said about the Android ecosystem–syncing, having everything available on every device, etc. I just ordered my wife a Nexus 6P. I would probably get a Galaxy Note 5 if I had to buy one for myself today. Samsung Pay is a really great system–use your phone to pay at ANY credit card reader with no need for special NFC reader as in Apple Pay or Android Pay. The innovations are really coming quickly. Apple used to lead, but I am afraid they just follow now.

The iPhone 6s is already available.

The new way carriers want to sell phones is important. For example, from Verizon, a 64GB 6s is about $30/mo (maybe less) but comes with a $20/mo credit, so the net cost isn’t much. The idea is they don’t want to subsidize phones anymore but sell them to us on installment. This also means that as long as the secondary market for iPhones stays strong then you can hold a phone for under 2 years and trade it in - no extra fee - and get a new phone for about the cost of activation. This means, in part, that it actually pays to buy a higher quality/newer phone because the difference per month isn’t much and the more expensive phone will have more trade-in value.

Note that buying from Apple is the same price but of course they can’t give you a credit, but they do include 2 years of Applecare+, which includes for the first time accident coverage (though with a fairly hefty deductible).

As a note, I have a 6s Plus because I’m extremely far sighted and can type on it without making errors. As to the new iPhones in general, I love Live Photos - have one as my lock screen (touch it and it comes to life) - and am getting used to 3D Touch. It makes things work more efficiently but I have to unlearn habits to get the real benefit. The camera is more improved than the reviews indicate; pictures are more natural and are better in lower light.

I use a large number of apps and prefer the ones made for iOS. Also as a note, I have family at Google, though not in the Android team. The more apps you use the more the choice of ecosystem matters.

Why would you migrate to iPhone then? If you like the Galaxy, I’d stick with it. I had a 4, recently got the Note5, and really like it. I was also tempted by the Edge. So pretty. :">

Let me be a contrarian and suggest the Asus Zenfone5. If you don’t need a smartphone with interstellar capabilities, at $200 it may fit the bill. It’s no iPhone or high end Galaxy, but it has many features and Asus offers great customer service with regular software updates. Several online retailers sell an unlocked version of the Zenfone5.

lol, I’m still using (and loving) my Galaxy Note 2

I have a 5s. I’m not inclined to get the 6 or 6s because I do NOT want a larger phone. Isn’t the 6s the biggest? I saw someone talking on one and they looked like they had an iPad mini up to their ears.

My husband has a motoX. He loves it…and Google girl is much smarter and better than Siri. Much better.

Because I have an iPad, and iPhone…I will probably keep the iPhone because I have tons of applications I use on both.

The pictures I take are not appearing on my iPad…and I am synced to the cloud. What am I doing wrong? Probably needs to be a different thread.

I have a 6 - it really doesn’t feel big at all. It is a little bigger than the 5s but it is also thinner. The camera on the 6 models seem to be a big improvement.

Thumper, the 6 plus, and the 6s plus are the big ones. I went from the 5s to the 6s, and love the new phone. It’s very thin, so it doesn’t feel any bigger than the 5s, but it’s easier to read because of the larger screen.

Thumper, I also had the problem of my pictures not appearing on my iPad. Go to settings>photos and camera>iCloud photo library and make sure you have that turned on on both devices.

Even though I had the settings correct, I still wasn’t getting the pictures on my iPad. Apparently there was another issue which I won’t hijack this thread to explain. But if you have the settings correct and it’s still not working, PM me and I’ll go into more detail.
