Gallatin restriction

Are there any restrictions on the schools where one can study at if enrolled in Gallatin? I’m interested in studying at Stern for marketing (still a bit undecided) yet also SCPS for Hotel administration. There are no restrictions that don’t allow some combination of schools, right?

There are restrictions for classes at certain schools. My son is also interested in marketing and I believe he was told that non-Stern students cannot take Stern classes during freshman year. There are also more general restrictions regarding classes at Tisch. Not as sure about the other schools. In terms of Gallatin, it has several of their own freshman requirments- for example my son has to take an interdisciplinary seminar and a writing seminar at Gallitan first semester and there are other core requirements as well. It seems that the students interested in business use freshman year to fulfill Gallatin requirements and then start taking courses in their area of interest the following year.

Current Gallatin student here–yeah, it really depends on the school/department. You do have a lot of flexibility as far as taking classes in other schools (you’re certainly not just limited to Gallatin/CAS), but while some departments might let anyone enroll in their classes, others are a lot more restricted (although I’ve been told that for some things, if you or your advisor contact certain people, you might be able to get in even if courses are restricted). From what I’ve seen, it looks like both Stern Marketing and SCPS Hotel Administration both do have courses that you can enroll in with no problem at Gallatin, but I think there are some that you wouldn’t be allowed to take.

For more information about what you can do in different departments/schools in Gallatin, go here, it’s ridiculously helpful and has most of the information you’ll need about this: [Cross Registration Guide](http://blogs.nyu.edu/gallatin/crg/)

The website above posts the restricted classes, correct? Or are there more classes that may be restricted?

Also, if a stern class is restricted to sophomore standing, would that mean technically non-Stern students wouldn’t be able to take a certain class until second semester of sophomore year or junior year because of the prerequisite classes on some?

Though Gallatin is suppose to be individualized study, it is very heavy on the arts, and it seems like you’re a lot more interested in business. I’d recommend just going directly to SCPS for Hospitality/Hotel and then take some Stern classes as electives.

Sorry for the late reply & huge bump.

@above, Regarding applying to SCPS, I’m just against that because I’m not certain whether I want to do hospitality/business, and if I ever do want to focus on business, I wouldn’t be able to apply to stern due to SCPS’s restriction on transfering to stern.
