Gallup: "American Optimism Slumps to Record Low"

I’m not sure how this can be a surprise. Jobs are hard to come by, prices of many staples remain stubbornly high, health care costs are soaring as are energy prices. And, of course, there is constant chaos with our current administration. Many folks feel the American dream is out or reach for them.

Ya think?!!!

I would be more upset realistically if American Optimism wasn’t slumped given the news we wake up to everyday.

I wish they would have included a break down by age. I think it would be very telling.

They did include a breakdown by party affiliation and race.

Sorry I only see one political party and race mentioned in the article

There is a table in the article.

I have been concerned for many years about what sort of situation we have been leaving for our kids. It is hard however to talk about this without getting into politics, although I have not been happy with either political party.

At least being a veterinarian strikes me as a career path that is safe as long as there are people and people have animals. If a farmer has cows, they will have milk and food and will need a veterinarian to help them from time to time, implying that the veterinarian will get to eat.

Biotech / biomedical research seems like a career path that is a bit more dependent upon the country being non-bankrupt.

I have trouble predicting how safe a career in high tech would be. It is hard to imagine that computers will ever go away. If AI programs the computers, then who programs the AI?

Then there is the issue of how to invest one’s retirement funds under these uncertain conditions.

This is how I feel about it also, although I might say “surprised” rather than “upset”.

Sadly, many vet clinics are being swallowed by giant entities, and while those young vets might still find employment, they are not compensated well and are saddled with college loans and demands to increase profits.
