Daughter and her family gifted us this cruise with them. It is basically a down and back trip.
Just wondering if anybody has suggestions what to do at Progresso? Anybody tried any excursions not affiliated with cruise ship? Looks like we are scheduled to be there from 8am to 6pm. Thanks for any input.
Just be mindful that if you do a “non-ship sponsored” excursion, the ship does not guarantee waiting for you. I’m not trying to scare you, just be aware. Also a shuttle from the ship along the 4 mile long pier! Give yourself time for that too (last shuttle to the ship will be about an hour before last on board). There’s a malecon (boardwalk) along the beaches, and they’re very pretty. It’s been about 15 years since I’ve been.
I took the ship excursion to Chichen Itza (Mayan ruins) which was really amazing. If you have yet to see any of the Mayan ruins, I do highly recommend them.
Another cool thing to do is snorkel a cenote (underground freshwater spring/lake/waterway). That’s something you can’t do every day, so it might be worth looking in to.
