The organization should be based in Southern California (Los Angeles or San Diego), or perhaps in San Francisco. I’m looking for part-time internships while I work and/or go to school.

Contact the volunteer centers in those cities and ask their advice.
Planned Parenthood is one organization that may welcome your assistance.
Be prepared to apply for volunteer work the same way you’d apply for a job: resume, business dress, preparing yourself for the interview by finding out info about the organization and their issues. If you plan to make documentary films, you also should have some skills in that area because it’s unlikely that people would have the time to teach you basic skills. Supervising volunteers takes a lot of time, and agencies choose volunteers who have the skills, independence and maturity to make the staff’s time investment worth it.

There’s a guy listed as a contact there. It says “no opportunities at this time” but that means professional employment. I’d say: contact him and describe what you want as a volunteer; see if he knows anything or anyone else in his network to contact, and keep going from there.

In addition to waiting for the CC parent response, of course!

For censorship, google and look up chapters of the American Civil Liberties Union or the American Library Association for ideas. Best wishes; your concerns are laudatory! Planned Parenthood also takes volunteers, perhaps in the area of all the internet communication they do these days. My H was trained as a sex educator but he was in training as a rabbi by then and in his late 20’s. They might have clerical work in their clinics, however. And they certainly have chapters everywhere, so Google On… You are obviously resourceful to post here, and that’s terrific!

EDIT: also google up NARAL and see if there are local chapters; that concerns abortion rights in America.
