GAP YEAR.

Okay so I am currently about to finish my freshman year of college. I attend a 4 year private school in NY and for some reason after this year realize that I have some person dilemmas that I need to attend to first before being able to put my all into college. After I graduated high school in 2012 I took a gap year for personal reasons. Then went to college for my first year in the Fall of 2013. Now I’m finishing this year and realized that I could be doing so much better but can’t because I have so many other things I need to fix before I can focus on school. Examples like: work full time to save money for a new car and future college expenses, lose weight, etc. I feel like my time and effort is going towards my job and weight loss and trying to learn Russian that I don’t focus on school. So my question is, is it bad to take ANOTHER gap year and go back to school in the Fall of 2015? I also want to transfer to Cali and maybe I would just apply to Cali schools instead of going back to the school I’m currently attending. I am so confused I need advice.

well as a prior eating disorder sufferer and weight loss obsessor, there’s one thing i can tell you for sure fact - allowing your desire to lose weight to keep you from achieving other goals in life (like college) is unnecessary and can even be harmful. avoid getting in the habit of putting things off until you’re thinner, otherwise you might end up putting your whole life on hold. realize that you can do anything right now that you could do if you were 20 pounds thinner or whatever.

^ I agree. It’s understandable if you can’t afford college and can’t take out a loan or something, but letting your weight control your life course can be really detrimental. As far as learning Russian is concerned, maybe take a Russian class at school? That might help keep you in a school mentality. This all basically Congress down to priorities. Is your weight or learning a new language more important than earning your degree?
