Gap Year

Prospective undergraudate here. Anyone know what Cornell’s GY policy is? Do they offer support to find a program? Do they even allow it?

I Googled this a bit and the one I found was geared for graduate students. Thanks!

I have a friend who is considering taking a gap year to find out what her academic and professional direction will be moving forward. From what I understand, Cornell will support your decision if you have a firm plan (this might mean that you have to find a program yourself). They encourage you to speak with your dean to see if the gap year is practical and worthwhile. The thing about a gap year is this: you need to have a plan. The worst thing is to be home and seeing all your friends on Facebook having a great time in college. You are also banking on having that “AHA!” moment, which comes for some and doesn’t come for others. It’s a risk, but only a decision that you can come to on your own. I do believe that you return to Cornell behind in the amount of time you left the school. Hope that helps!
