<p>Do you have to do something impressive during your gap year like traveling abroad, getting a job or internship, etc? Can the school not agree allow you to defer if you’re doing something different?</p>

<p>I’ve been looking into this for a few weeks, so I’ll bite. It depends on the school and their policy. However, this is if you apply then take a gap year. If you take a gap year, then apply, you might want to do something “impressive”.</p>
<p>Different how? Most schools will want to see that you are doing something important. A lot depends on how you explain what you are doing and why it is significant to you. Don’t take a year off to do nothing.</p>
