I vote design flaw. A well designed product does not allow FIRE from user error.
Sticking with electric and photovoltaic/solar in our household. Flames would scare me, plus we’d have to find space and pay fir a huge tank on our property. 
I hate electric and not having gas would be a deal breaker on a home for me. I also vote a design flaw. My Dacor gas burners won’t light if they don’t have the correct fittings.
I much prefer gas. Like Kelsmom the burner plate thingys have to sit just right. There is a silver metal part and then a black cover for each of the 4 burners.
