Gates Millenium Scholarship 2011-2012

@anotherindiankid: =D GO GATORS! My school lives at UF (half of my senior class got in this year alone). When it comes to my GPA and students from my school, I attend a dual-enrollment high school, where I’m a full-time Miami-Dade College (MDC) student and high school student. With the bonus points from “A’s” in dual-enrollment and honors classes, and “A’s” in AP classes, the highest possible GPA to earn at my school is a 7.0. The highest GPA at my school is a 6.85. That’s pretty much because of the crazy courseload at my school, ranging from 7 to 10 classes a semester (at least 4 required high school classes yearly and 3-6 dual enrollment classes per semester). Plus, students from my school like to get their Associates in Arts, so if I go to UF (if I don’t get Gates), I could go in as a junior with my transfer credit. Makes sense? It’s not something easily explained in pixels if you’ve never taken dual-enrollment credit. I hope that answers the GPA question. Also, every district weighs GPA differently and so do some private schools.
@hopeful201: I wrote about my family’s financial situation (basically how we became poor) and how that’s inspired me to get a real job/not be dependent on government assistance.

^ ok i got it, you just have a different grading scale. ive dual enrolled too but my school only gives it 5 points. i find that the dual enrollment class schedules are nicer, but my HS courses are tons more interesting.

DE classes are nicer, and a lot easier than AP classes. Then again, I take them at MDC, not a real challenging school. And yea, my high school classes are more interesting oddly enough. Are you getting an AA or did you just take DE classes for college experience/boost GPA?

just got rejected from a scholarship… wat a day

definitely not college experience since i dual enrolled at a community college. definitely to boost my GPA :)

which scholarship dcollegeapps?

a Rutgers scholarship… my spirit is down right now… sucks… a rejection letter from GMS would have been perfectly on time if it came today…

I just saw on twitter that this girl is a Gates Scholar. She found out today

I saw some one twitter too. I wonder where they live.

She lives in DC

My post was correct everyone get ready-monday is our turn

anyone know her race?

She is african American

ok thanks 10char

Another guy got it too, if you go to twitter and search gates millienium they pop up with tweets. they are all AA

They both are from DC

Georgetown mailed early action decisions out on a Friday and Georgia got them the following Monday so Georgia (and probably most of the east coast) will probably find out by Monday! Yikes! Good luck everyone! <3

Tht explains it. DC is where everythin is for UNCF I believe.

The American Indian Graduate Center (AIGC) in New Mexico handles the GMS for Native Americans, so anyone near there should hear shortly.

so that simply means that those of us in the NJ,NY,PA area find out monday or tuesday… im anxious and excited… GOOD LUCK…
