what about Florida?

Just to give a ray of hope out there. There were over 18,000 applicants this year. out of those 18,000 only 1800 or so got chosen as finalist. The last step consists of reviewing and confirming all your information such as GPA, clubs, etc. There just making sure everything is correct. In reality there looking for ways to accept you and not deny you. Hope this eases some minds out there. (and btw I live in Northern Virginia, I’m about one hour away from DC and have not heard yet either) -__-

@stormshadow1093: I heard there were over 23,500 applicants and about 1,900 finalists. Where did you get your stats? I’m Asian (headquarters in DC), and I live in Miami, FL, so I won’t hear anything until Tuesday, the earliest. -.-

joy I’m from Miami as well.

I know someone who works for the gmsp scholarship and told me those numbers. You would be surprised that many got eliminated because they had incomplete applications. In the end we all have a chance of getting this scholarship; our odds are around 50/50.

If I get this it will be a happy day

Hi everyone… I recently started following the discussion && finally decided to join. However, I am highly discouraged because everyone who posted their stats sounds like a better GM Scholar then I could possibly be. I now know for a FACT that I did not get this scholarship. However, I just want everyone to know that you all are in my prayers && God is going to bless each and every one of us during this time. Whether we get the scholarship or not, God has a plan for us all. :D

Were you informed for a fact that you did not receive it or is that an assumption? I’m still awaiting notification.

I wasnt informed of anything yet. I live in New York. Im assuming that I didnt get the scholarship b.c. everyone sounds like a better candidate then me … Good Luck to All

BeyondAnxious thats a pretty bad assumption, sometimes selections come down to just pure luck. Besides if you look at previous scholars, some went to state schools, while others went to privates.

^I agree! Until you find out for sure, there’s really no point in making assumptions. As someone mentioned earlier, we have nearly a 50/50 chance–>have a little faith in yourself! Maybe there was just something that makes YOU stand out!

Let’s enjoy the rest of the weekend and leave the stress/worries for the week. Have a great one everyone!

Isn’t there some sort of banquet or something for all of the selected gates scholars?

Thanxx I needed those upbuilding words.

@Troddle … There is a banquet. But thts during the beginning of the scholars freshman yr of college. My friend from last yr is a scholar && she told me the experience was one she would never forget.

@beyondanxious… were all anxiously waiting like ur username…lol nd im just as anxious… relax… find somethin to take ur mind off the issue… and you can never be too sure untill u see gms decision… God works in miraculous ways…

I think I have bad karma when it comes to these things. I don’t know if its my attitude or what, but I tend to make it right up to the final round of things only to be denied. I made it to state spelling bee but did not advance, did not advance from state science fair, Rejected from all of my top schools, Made it to the final round of an essay contest but did not place. In fact I’ve come in second at almost everything I’ve ever done. Except for a science symposium that I won, but I did not really even care about it. I really don’t want this to be a repeat of my past. To every one who wins things frequently or get into your top choice, what kind of attitude do you have towards the things that your after?

@troddle

Won’t it be wonderful when you can come back here next week and say “I GOT IT”!

Wishing you the very best of luck :)

does anyone know when the banquet is? and where it is? and also is it is mandatory to go?
about one more day left anyone! all our fears and anxieties will be over soon continuing to pray for everyone here…

@beyondanxious and any one else out there who is losing faith…dont begin doubting yourself just yet. I was doubting myself when i completed my application. There were several students in my school who had higher gpa’s, more extracurricular/clubs and out of everyone I’m one of three finalist in the county. Also we are not all in competition with each other. All the ethnicities actually get divided up in the process. so our chances are actually a little higher then the 50/50 i had stated. Just remember our struggles and hardships are what got us here. God gave me my story, as well as yours to share with the world.

Banquet is LA, yes they give you notice way ahead of time and tell your school and your professors usually excuse you and give you the work you miss.
