Gates Millenium Scholarship 2011-2012

Im Hispanic, located in Virginia.

Rejection letter just came in. At least its over now and I can enjoy spring break…
(btw it was given in a regular sized envelope…funny thing is that it was sent by the UNFC and not the Hispanic Scholarship Fund)

God Bless all of you who are still waiting, Congrats to all the scholars so far. Even if you do not get it, REMEMBER there is one more chance next year.

Holy crap! I’m so sorry :frowning: I’ll be expecting one today.

I thought us finalists had a really great chance. You were pell grant eligible right? And gpa above 3.2 last semester?

Based on not having received any email/mail notification, I’m 99% sure we’ll be getting a rejection letter today.

Its ok not the end of the world. I hope the best for you caligirl2011

And yes i was pell grant eligible, my efc is 0 so i qualify for the full $5500. My GPA last semester was a 3.7 which brought me down to a 3.9 cumulative GPA. I’m still waiting on other local and state scholarships next month.

@ stormshadow1093 what do mean another chance next year? I thought this scholarship was only for seniors. Am I wrong?

@gavame…no you can actually apply the following year as a freshmen in college. If you recall the essays. There was the last one, which was for those who where freshmen in college. It asked to write about your community involvement and extracurriculars since you graduated from high school…

@stormshadow1093, OMG, I didn’t know that…that means there IS still hope? Woah, you tots made my day. I will definately apply next year. Thanks a lot for the info

p.s. Do you know if we can reuse our essays? or are the essay topics different for the class of 2012?

Hey everyone!

My twin brother and I received our big envelopes two days ago! We are “African Americans” (I consider myself to be African) from Northern California. For both of us to have received such as humongous award is a blessing. We’re extremely grateful. Congrats to all those who received gms and for those who didn’t it isn’t the end of the world although it may feel like it.

I haven’t made a college decision yet but I think I’m going to attend Princeton.

Damn mail came, nothing from Gates.

sorry stormshadow, but you should really do your research before getting peoples’ hopes up about this scholarship. It is only for students that have NEVER attended college. Meaning there is no chance to apply next year unless maybe if you take a gap year. That last question was for students that graduated from high school more than 1 year ago but have NEVER attended college. So no, you cant apply for this scholarship again next year.
congrats to all of those that got it.

no mail… ■■■ hahhaa dang man, just cant operate after… will check mail tom lol

@indians, same here…lol. We’re just going to have to wait for that letter of rejection (no?). It is pretty much evident that we didn’t get it. =(
@rainisb, you are right. I did some research after finding out what stormshadow wrote and yeah, it is only for seniors/people that have never attended college. Anyways, thanks for confirming what I found.

Again, CONGRATS TO ALL THE SCHOLARS, YALL DESERVE IT! ENJOY IT AND MAKE THE MOST OUT OF IT!

P.S. Gave up on checking my e-mail.

I am gonna say letter of acceptance will May 1st, after that its over lmao hahha

well, one thing that will help us all: the scholar “list” comes up tomorrow ;p. You can just search for you name and hope that your package got lost or something of that nature (and all of this will be over). I sitll haven’t received any letter of rejection/e-mail/or package. However, given my luck, I probably didn’t get it…hahaha.

@gavame how do you know of the scholar list?

@gavame how do you know of the scholar list???

@indians/ @ caligirl2011, well, I assumed that, not sure. Last year’s list was updated to their website on 4/22/10. So I just made the assumption.

nothing in the mail today.

We are all in the fail boat :frowning: so discouraging…
