I’m not loosing hope! Last time (during the finalist round) they called me asking if I had received my documents or an email notification. It seems they always miss a couple of people here and there… So… Good luck everyone!

@calitosboy15 I love your attitude and i am a little discouraged but still have hope till May 1ST!

I think the only reason why I’m not truly discouraged is because I’ve received my financial aid packages from several schools… I’ll be fine without outside help. Nothing a little summer job can’t pay for
I guess what really matters is the leadership and scholar workshops… I love making new friends!

Nothing in the mail yet again today >.< but I’m not going to give up until I have a letter in my hand.

Again nothing in the mailbox or email. So I was nervous and excited but now it is like lets get this over with just tell me yes or no. I still have little hope but have resigned myself to not rely on getting it anymore.

and i continue to annoy the mailman tom! lol

Good luck to everyone! Best of wishes to all. I posted previously a few days ago that I received it. Here is my information (if anyone is interested)

From: SoCal
Ethnicity: Asian (Korean)
EFC: Straight 0’s!
College I will be attending: Harvard 2015!

Even though Harvard provided me a generous financial aid and Gates will only cover about 1500$ (my work studies) since that is the only thing I’m in debt to, I’m just happy that I received the title Gates Millennium Scholar (it is such an honor). I’m just fortunate to be recognized, and wish everyone just as much, if not more, fortune! (:

jsungoh, your stats blow mine out the water! Congratz on getting into Harvard! Congratz on getting the Bill Gates Scholarship! I wish the best of luck at HARvard and in ur future life.

ok for all the scholars can you guys help me out with award determination?.. im still confused…

Ok (this is hypothetical), suppose that the university that i want to go to has a total cost of attendance of $20,000. lets say that my expected parental contribution+exp. student contribution is 0. lets say that i got a $4000 scholarship from the university and $2000 from other local organizations. and im pell grant eligible so i got $5500. so the rest of the $10,500 for the cost of attendance is in loans (fed work study, direct sub loan, perkins loan). so how much would gates give me? $8500?

@ gavame
@ rainsib
I am pretty sure that the information I gave is correct. The person who i know that works as a reader for essay portion of the gms scholarship told me this info, he is also really good friends with the vp of the scholarship organization as well. I will make sure to ask him again on monday and verify the information. Congrats to all current scholars

so is there a really list coming out today?

I assume you meant the remainder of the COA was $8500, not $10,500. You would be correct that Gates would cover the $8500. The only problem I see with your hypothetical is $0 student contribution. Most every school, even those with the most generous FA requires student summer contributions.

@GA2012MOM - Are you the mom of the student who was notified MUCH later than all the rest of the scholars? We haven’t heard anything either way and my daughter has to make a decision of schools quickly (she leaves to go out of state for 3 weeks on a senior intern program). We cannot pick her top choice without this. Not that another choice won’t work - it will, it just isn’t her first (or second) choice.

@GA2012MOM thanks for the verification

eecardell, yes I am that mom. However, it was three years ago, and I think things were done a bit differently then. We were told that the quicker that you turned in your finalist materials that the quicker you would be notified. It seemed they were doing it on a rolling, first in first out basis. My daughter submitted here things ASAP, but she didn’t get her package for 2 or 3 weeks after many who turned in their documents at the same time she did. I do remember looking at the postmark on the big envelope, and IIRC, it had taken 9 days to get to us! I remember wondering us wondering if it had come via Pony Express!

If it gets down to the end of the month and you haven’t heard either way, I would call GMSP and tell them you need to know one way or another. Before your S/D leaves for the three weeks, just have them make their wishes perfectly clear as to which school for you to accept on their behalf according to what the GMS decision will be. Good luck, I have been following this thread this week and have been rooting for you, as well as all the students.

@ indians, I do not know. Like I said yesterday, I only assumed that. I supposed that there is going to be one, not sure when. I thought it was going to be today. You should try calling the office and asking them; I won’t do it because I am just tired of worrying about this scholarship that I didn’t get…I mean, I haven’t received anything yet (rejection/acceptance), but I am sure I didn’t get it. Anyways, good luck w/everything!

thanks GA2012MOM :)

@GA2012MOM, What do you mean before they leave for three weeks?

^

See post #1673.

GA2012MOM - I have a question for you. My daughter just became a scholar and I wanted to find out how will Gates pay for her books and supplies? Will we need to buy the books and then be reimbursed later? Or will Gates cut us a check for books? Also do you know how transportation expenses work? Thank you so much for any info you can provide.
