Gates Millenium Scholarship Official Thread 2013

How much do you think “need” will be a factor in the next round? I wonder if “need” was even a determining factor in the first round or if character was the only criteria in the first round.

Not a finalist  Not giving up hope for other scholarships though  Good luck to everyone!

Well i got rejected :(. But i was surprised they had 54,000 applicants. Oh well i have 3 more scholarships to wait for. Im more upset at the work and time i sacrificed for this application lol

Asian finalist from Iowa! Wow, I was NOT expecting this!! I squealed for about an hour!

Also, congrats to my fellow finalists!!

To non-finalists: Don’t feel discouraged, guys! You all worked very hard on the application!!! Don’t give up!

54,000? Where is this figure coming from?

@scuba thats what it says on the rejection letter. 54,000 applicants seems so much more than that of previous years.

Wow! I guess it really is an honor to make it to the next phase. That is tremendous competition… o_0

I’m a finalist of Asian ethnicity from Nevada. Does anyone know how many finalists are selected to recieve the scholarship? Like the percentage?

Yeah it is ! Congrats  i doubt my stats compare to any of the finalists. Being a finalist out all of 54,000 applicants is incredible lol

I know Texas had a total of 96 awards last year. http://www.gmsp.org/Img/UserDir/docs/GMS%20Cohort%2013%20by%20Home%20State.pdf

Have any Hispanics received a finalist email? I haven’t received an email or a letter yet!

I’m not a finalist, but my sincerest congratulations to those who are!! You’ve worked very hard and completely deserve it! Best of luck in the next round! :)
