Gates Millenium Scholarship Official Thread 2013

That makes sense.
I also got that message about a letter being sent, although I already received an email from GMS stating that they had everything they needed. I wonder why I am getting a letter?

@scuba9026, when did you submit your application. I submitted mine on 12/28/12 and my number is 49,366

On the Upload Documents site, when you guys click “View Document Upload History” does “Financial Aid Award Upload” appear on the list of Electronically Uploaded Documents?

@ lovegrapes: It shows up, but there is no link. Does your’s have a link? We submitted the application the day it was due. Last document was submitted 30 minutes before the very final deadline.

I am not sure if this information is legit but I have heard that there are ethnic divisions with the scholarship. Like ASians get the leat and african americans have the highest odds… is it true?

I don’t think we have an answer that question, as we don’t have insight about the process. Someone can probably give you an estimate of the numbers though.

@Zestyzenith each ethinic division are all the same. 250 scholars from each.

Thanks ixzSnow and Azscholar17!

When I first applied for the Gates Scholarship I had a low GPA(3.3)/ I applied anyways. And now that I am chosen as a finalist…it is time to send in the GPA Verification Sheet, Transcript. I am really scared if they will really judge me on the GPA for the scholar list. I am really nervous because I barely squeezed myself into the requirement of the scholarship.

Ok, so I don’t think I got it but I would like some closure. It’s April now and I never received an email or letter telling me if I was a finalist or not. I’m guessing that means I’m not but…

I would log into the gms website to confirm (https://www.gmsdocs.org/</a>). If they sent you a finalist letter it would be there. ID: zipcode + last 4 of primary phone. I think everyone should have received a finalist letter or an email by now. You may also want to check your spam.

Does anyone have an idea which ethnicity has the greatest applicants/competition?

Probably Asians, just because of their desire to succeed, but other races are not far behind (possibly equally competitive), because EVERYONE is a high-achieving student.

@zestyzenith I had a GPA of 3.3 and I’m a scholar. :)

@azsenior African Americans, Asians, Hispanics, then native Americans.

how do you know african americans are the most competitive?

Hey I’m an African American finalist from Alabama. Congrats to all of those who are also finalists and to those who are not I say this. Do not give up because the best is yet to come for you. Just wait and see.

They keep losing my documents!!!

@Azscholar17
thank you so much… i feel much better now!!! where do you go to college?

I am just eager to know the results of my finalist application. I just want to know. The waiting is killing me!!! Just a couple more days, I say. Hopefully us finalists hear within a week, it else I am going to loose it. Haha.
