@boywithpan - I’m so sorry, but you’re right when 1 door closes 2 more open. Did the rejection come via mail or email?

CLASS RANK: 14/602
AP: World History (5), Psychology (5), US History (5), Biology (5), English Language (5)
SENIOR COURSE-LOAD: AP Physics B, AP English Lit., AP European History, AP Calculus BC, AP Economics, AP US Government, Honors Debate III

ECs:
-President of Speech and Debate Team. Premier Distinction (highest–1500+ points). Qualified for State Tournament 3yrs (Qualified in 4 events Junior Year). Qualified for National Competitions (NFL Nats '11 and '13, and NIETOC '12, '13–couldn’t go due to lack of funds). UIL Regional Champion in Informative Speaking.
Put in 30+ hours a week during Fall Semester, almost double that Spring Semester.

-Science National Honor Society (Secretary). Design lab experiments for fifth graders at a local, economically disadvantaged elementary school.

-Robotics (Secretary). Built Robots for over 7 tournaments at State level for the past three years. Didn’t write too much into this one in the Common App, but I probably spent 15+ hours a week during pre-competition weeks.

I’ve gone on a few mission trips, and that’s the extent of my volunteering, unfortunately. Not a lot of time. Probably 300 hours.

ESSAYS: I’m a good writer–I’m not bragging or anything, but I definitely know how to tell a story, and I think I did so very effectively. If anything, that is what sealed the deal for me.

RECS: My two favorite (and most eloquent) teachers wrote stellar recommendations for me. One of my teachers let me read hers, and I actually teared up quite a bit. I know I owe a lot of this to them.

Probably more than you needed, but I like to be thorough.
