guys, in my congrat letter it says cc: nominator and recommender on bottom of letter. Do they also know currently? becuase i want to be the one to tell my nominator

Can I tell you how long I’ve prayed that I will have the opportunity to post this message? A long time!

We thought the postman had come and gone earlier today, but we were wrong. Just came home from work to an impressively large white envelope! Holding the news (we’re evil) until tomorrow morning, so that we can present the Congratulations! award to our S. at school.

His life will have changed from that second, and we want to capture the exact moment for posterity. Charging the camera batteries as I write!!!

God is most definitely Good…

On the letter, it says I will get an email tomorrow, April 19th, saying the same thing as the letter (saying I got the scholarship, I mean). So maybe you WILL get an email tomorrow, but I really don’t know…

Oh yes, So excited for him that I forgot to include: AA male from Los Angeles, California

ANY past Gates schoalrs? does your nominator know from GMSP? i want to be like thanks for all your help. then BOOM you helped me win a prestigious scholarship from Gates millenium. i am really curious and want to know.

@SciMan- I believe they won’t know until YOU tell them :)

@TouchStone1- Congrats! I can already imagine the reaction you’re son will have and make sure you take lots of pictures too, for you helped him achieve this as well :)

@SciMan
I got into Irvine and a few other places I’m not sure where I’m going yet.

@GMark5
hey bro I’m in San Diego too, no mail yet, praying for tomorrow. but either way, I guess well find out anyway if they’re sending emails tomorrow. Good luck everyone!

Thank you Stagflation29. And for those who are interested, he has not decided on a college yet, but the list is down to: Boston University, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, UCLA, and USC.

@Stagflation29: In all my confusion and ranting I forgot to tell you congratulations! Just glad the notices have made their way down south.

@scuba9026 Thank you :)

Can any previous scholars describe the leadership conference and how it goes? Is there a dance on the last day?

@sciman i dont think our nominator or recommender were notified because they were really surprised when i told them. also, i think it says cc because it might be a copy of the email they will be sending tomorrow, which they will definitely get.

Sciman, my D’s rec and nom were not told before her.

@bright bluebird

wait our nominators/rec get email tomorow too?

For those who did receive the gates millennium scholarship congratulations. That is a huge accomplishment and you truly do deserve it.
For those, like me, who were finalists, but unfortunately were not selected as gates millennium scholars do not give up. Hang your head up high. Being selected as a finalist is a blessing within itself. All of us who were picked as finalists are very gifted people. I’m sure that each and every one of us will succeed beyond expectations. Do not let this disappointment get you down. God has a plan for each and very one of us.

@SciMan congrats on achieving scholar status!! I, on the other hand, am only a finalist. Although it hurts, I know there is a reason. Might still see you around at UCLA, fingers crossed.

@ knixon0238:
thank you for those kind words. I have not been notified yet but all things in general have been extremely stressful lately and if I do receive bad news, I will remember those words

I worked my ass off to help my family throughout my high school years. I helped my peers apply to scholarships and universities. I worked over 40 hours per week at minimum wage. I have put up with so much crap after my father left us and I didn’t receive this scholarship. My mom makes 14 k per year and we have to survive on that. There are 4 of us in the household. My mom always told me I wouldn’t get accepted at texas am and to her surprise I did. I have struggled so much and every scholarship has denied me. I believe mostly because I have very few community service hours, it’s not my fault I was busy feeding my little sister and brother while taking dual credit and ap courses as well as participating in the debate team.

Now ill have to stay home and go work in the oil fields. I love school and I want to study finance and later become a lawyer. Please help me somebody I don’t want to end up like my big brother who was a genius but is now stuck in the oil fields. I have tried every major scholarship. I have a 3.9 gpa in the top ten percent 27 college hours. I’m desperate I feel like all the walls are closing in on me.
