<p>I just called and got the “letter in the mail status”. I’m not really worried about being a finalist or not because I just learned this past weekend that I’m not pell grant eligible. /: I feel a bit pathetic for still having a bit of hope, lol.</p>

<p>Congrats Rez. If you have time, perhaps you could call the automated messaging system from Gates and see if they ask for your documents. It could clear up a lot of the misconceptions on this thread.</p>
<p>One of my friends (who was a Gates scholar last year) mentioned there was some conference for Gates scholars where you get a first class plane ride to an amazing hotel for a few days. Does anyone know when this conference is??</p>
<p>It’s in Virginia for east coast people and in Los Angeles for west coast scholars…I read that in the 2011-12 thread.</p>

<p>I am an African-American student who called them up and listened to the whole message. They said a letter has been sent regarding my notification status, and please make sure to send transcript, financial aid forms, etc. (0-5 documents received).</p>
<p>Wow I’m so surprised people are already getting messages. I really want to call but I don’t think I can handle the rejection! I might just wait for the email :/</p>
<p>I got my notification by mail first and then email for some reason when I went through the process. Anyways good luck to you scholarship hopefuls!!</p>

<p>Yesterday when I called, I received the 0-5 document message, but when I called today I didn’t hear it anymore. I just heard the “a mail has been sent to your house” message. Did this happened to anyone?? I am scared now</p>

<p>I just rechecked my son’s and his has changed to the letter in the mail message too. They added allow 2 weeks to get letter to the message. </p>
<p>I think so many people were flipping out about the 0-5 until they took it completely off. LOL</p>
<p>Yep, just called and the message has been changed completely. 
Hope that doesn’t change the end result as well.</p>
