<p>I got the real Gates Millennium Scholarship. I received notification in the mail yesterday. The letter said:</p>

<p>"Welcome to the Gates Millennium Scholar community! The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) competition attracted a substantial pool of accomplished Nominees and it is indeed a distinction for you to be recognized for your exceptional academic and leadership achievements. </p>

<p>To determine the amount of your 2006-2007 academic year award, please forward a completed GMS information sheet and your financial aid award from (whatever college) as soon as possible. You will be awarded a GMS scholarship for the 2006-2007 academic year, based on your current financial aid packaging in your financial aid award letter. </p>

<p>Congratulations on being accepted for this distinguished award."</p>

<p>So I assume I got the official thing already. I sent my stuff in around March 15 and the letter that I got is postmarked March 21. I’m pretty happy!!</p>

<p>Ah…the UNCF is definitely doing it a lot quicker. I’ve been waiting so anxiously. It’s NERVEWRECKING.</p>

<p>Yeah I was pretty shocked when I got the letter because I didn’t think they would be notifying people until the end of April. But it really does make my life alot easier now!</p>

<p>waiting for Cal, Stanford, Princeton, Columbia, Penn, Cornell, NU, JHU.</p>

<p>Getting this scholarship would make all of my schools affordable…</p>

<p>All those private schools! I wish I had applied to them as well, but didn’t know of the COMMON APP, so the thought of having to do 5-7 more applications almost strangled me.</p>

<p>Yeah man… and even if the school didn’t accept common app, the essays were really similar.</p>

<p>I just applied to a lot of reaches cause I got scared of rejection everywhere. Hopin to hit a few.</p>

<p>idk if this is repetitive…but which component of financial aid package does GMS cover/not cover? loans? student contribution? parents contribution?</p>

<p>I’ve been accepted into USC (Trustee scholarship pending), Santa Clara, and Miami University in Oxford, OH. </p>

<p>I’m waiting on Stanford, Berkeley, Pomona, University of Michigan, Georgetown, Harvard, Yale, and Princeton!</p>
